Langbein Lecture
The Walter B. Langbein Lecture is given at the Fall Meeting. The lectureship is to be awarded for lifetime contributions to the basic science of hydrology and/or unselfish service promoting cooperation in hydrologic research. Additional considerations may be the candidate's renown as a lecturer and/or as an educator.

Hydrologic Sciences Award
The Hydrologic Sciences Award, known as the Robert E. Horton Award from 1956 to 1998 was established in 1956 and is granted by the Section for contributions over a career (with an emphasis on the past five years). Hydrologic Sciences Award recipients are recognized for an outstanding contribution to the science of hydrology. Note that winners of the Union Horton Medal are listed under union awards. In 1998, the Horton Award was renamed the Hydrology Section Award to avoid confusion with the Horton Medal awarded by the Union. In 2000, the award was renamed the Hydrology Award, and subsequently the Hydrologic Sciences Award in 2005.

Hydrologic Sciences Early Career Award
The Early Career Hydrologic Sciences Award recognizes outstanding research, educational or other accomplishments, such as societal impacts, for a scientist at his or her early career stage. In doing so, the Hydrology section acknowledges significant early career contributions of the awardee, and promise of continued contributions to hydrologic science.

Horton Research Grant for Ph.D. Students
In 1982, the Hydrology Section of AGU gained access to a portion of the income of the Robert E. Horton Fund for Hydrologic Research. This permitted the initiation of the Horton Research Grant, which was first awarded in 1983. In recent years, two awards have been made each year. The grants are in support of research projects in hydrology and water resources by Ph.D. candidates in institutions of higher education.
Hydrology Affiliated Recipients of Union Honors
The Bowie Medal, awarded annually, is the most prestigious medal of the Union. Five hydrologists have received this medal:
- 2009 - Ignacio Rodriguez-Iturbe
- 1994 - Peter S. Eagleson
- 1986 - James C. I. Dooge
- 1969 - Walter B. Langbein
- 1958 - Johannes Theodoor Thijsse
- 1943 - Oscar Edward Meinzer
The Robert E. Horton Medal is for Outstanding contribution to the geophysical aspects of hydrology. The Medal has been awarded biennially since 1976 and awarded annually starting in 1995.
