It's easy to organize a special session for the AGU meetings.
First, pick a research topic that would attract large interest in the hydrology/geophysical commuity. Try to focus on active and emerging areas of research in hydrology.
While most meetings have an on-line web-based forum for proposing sessions, it is best to first contact the Technical Committee Chair for the area that relates to your topic. If there is overlap, contact more than one chair and let them know you have made more than one contact.
The technical committe chair will ask you to write a short paragraph explaining the session's purpose and its audience, and to formally submit the idea through the web for the specific meeting. Final decisions on special sessions are made about eight months prior to the AGU meeting. Ideas should be submitted to the appropriate technical chair(s) ten months in advance of the meeting date.
If your topic is selected, you will find a co-chair, invite a few key
presenters, and be available just after the abstract deadline to help
organize the papers. It isn't a lot of work, but it is a great service to
the community!
